Week 03

Zucchini Garden Chowder

Notes: Another soup this week from the family cookbook. Partly due to the windy, “cold” weather this weekend. Partly due to the start of my absence next week and not wanting to have too many unused ingredients lying around. This was also my first recipe served to other people, not only as an opportunity to reduce my leftovers, but as an opportunity to have people over to my apartment.

Lessons:
1. Shredded cheese is the exact same cost as un-shredded cheese.
2. Knives are sharp, which I already knew, but which can produce some awkward cuts when cooking.
3. This soup does fit in my pot.
4. The accumulation of other spices and ingredients made shopping for this recipe a lot easier.
5. This is a very quick recipe, and I may have to use it for future “pinch” situations.

My first dinner partyNew Equipment Needed: None for this recipe, however after looking through the recipes I have, I found some things I will need in the future . . .
1. Casserole Dish. Not necessarily for this recipe, but for the fact that I’m really only equipped to do pastas and soups right now.
2. Food Processor. I would be able to do more recipes if I actually had one. A food processor would make chopping things a lot easier too.
3. Mixer. I was planning on perhaps doing some baking for future weeks, but I cannot accomplish this easily without some sort of automated mixing machine.
