Week 51

Cinnamon Apple Salad

Notes: Saw this at Thanksgiving, and it reminded me how delicious and awesome it is.

Lessons:
1. To the untrained eye, this recipe looks like red jello, and the untrained eye would only be partly correct. It’s jello, red hots and apple sauce. Plus, the recipe called for two boxes of jello, either raspberry or cherry, so I did the most logical thing and got a box of cherry and a box of raspberry and mixed them together.
2. The apple sauce is what gives this recipe its texture, and the red hots are what give it its kick. This isn’t your cafeteria style jello dish.
3. Next time I might use a smaller dish, like an 8″X8″, instead of the 9″X13″.
4. Two things may have prevented this recipe from being a success, one of them I think has to do with the mixing of ingredients. I don’t think everything got mixed well enough, because the part of the recipe that actually sat on the bottom of the dish. Also . . .
5. I may need to put my refrigerator on a colder setting, because even after a night in the fridge, it did not set up.

Final Analysis: I am completely amazed at the irony of this recipe. I have made much more complicated dishes than this, but this is the one that did not turn out. It pretty much ended up as a complete failure, and I am scratching my head trying to figure out why.
